Osteopathic Internship
For Osteopathic Graduates, we offer a Traditional Osteopathic Internship that is part of a three year Categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program. The latter two years complete an approved ACGME Internal Medicine Residency Program. Multiple aspects of the program are unique for the DO Interns, including Osteopathic Manipulative Seminars, and a schedule that fulfills the requirements of a Traditional Osteopathic Internship.
OMM Seminars are held monthly inconjunction with other local institutions. Interns are required to attend 6 of these seminars throughout their Internship year. Performance of OMT is encouraged during clinical time and multiple Osteopathic faculty preceptors are available for guidance and support.
Osteopathic Interns are also required to complete patient logs that track their clinical exposure. These logs are completed monthly and are maintained in the Department of Medicine for regulatory compliance.
In addition, DO interns have scheduling requirements that need to be met. They always have an outpatient Family Practice rotation incorporated into their schedule in addition to exposure to all core disciplines as well as anesthesia.
At the completion of their year, the osteopathic interns graduate from their internship and directly advance into the Categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program. Multiple resources exist and are in development within the Residency program that promote the Osteopathic ideals and principles of practice.
